Five reasons to study at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Law School
Forget dusty textbooks. At ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Law School, law is global, practical, and built around your future.
Law is about more than learning rules and regulations. It shapes every aspect of society, from business and technology to government, human rights and environmental protection. As one of the world’s leading universities for law (70th globally according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026), you'll explore how law responds to some of the biggest challenges facing society today, gain practical experience before you graduate, and develop the skills you need for a wide range of legal and professional careers.
Here are five reasons why you should choose ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ to study law....
1. Shape your degree around the issues that matter to you
A law degree should prepare you for the future, not just teach you about the past.
Alongside the core legal subjects that form the foundation of your LLB, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ offers specialist degrees – and optional modules – that allow you to immerse yourself in areas of law aligned with your interests and career ambitions. From your second year, you can choose to specialise in:
Alternatively, at Year 1, you can also select degrees that combine law with other disciplines:
- Law with Criminology
- Law with International Relations
- Law with Business (new for 2027).
These LLB degrees allow you to develop specialist knowledge while building the legal reasoning, analytical and communication skills that underpin a successful legal career.
2. Gain practical experience throughout your degree
Studying law means much more than memorising rules. A key part of legal training involves developing the skills and confidence to apply them in real life settings.
At ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, we have a diverse and energetic set of Law Clinics offering practical experience on real cases while you study to boost your CV. From the business start-up clinic, the access to justice clinic and the digital law clinic and more, you can jump-start your practical legal training while studying with us.
Additionally, our friendly and active student-run Law Society organises opportunities for you to practise valuable legal skillset, including:
- Mooting competitions
- Simulated trials in our court room
- Negotiation competitions
- Client interviewing competitions
- Volunteer in our community-based law clinics and assist those without legal representation at Guildford County Court.
These experiences help you develop advocacy, communication and problem-solving skills while giving you insight into how legal professionals work in practice. In addition, getting involved in the Law Society looks great on your CV, and provides a rich talking point at interviews!
We’ll also train you how to use AI to accelerate essential tasks, so you can focus on the aspects it can’t do: supporting clients, exercising judgement, applying ethics and commanding a room. For example, you could use AI to create complex or novel legal disputes for discussion and problem-solving application – or perhaps workshop your arguments by letting AI serve as the opposing lawyer to battle-test your best arguments and boost your understanding of the law.
