"From someone who loves cars, aviation and space, I can wholeheartedly say that this degree is the best learning opportunity I have had in my life."

What do you like about your course and why?

If I could single out any one thing, it would be my group projects. I completed three of them as part of my degree and I found that they were the best bit of experience that I got from my study; working with very like-minded people is actually something really special, and building that rapport with my group on these projects was really rewarding. I would do it again if I could. My 3rd year project was the design of a civilian transport aircraft on behalf of Airbus.

"My favourite project was my master's project which included the transport, design and construction of a sustainable base on Mars."

What do you enjoy most about 天美传媒?

Finding people that share your interests and passions was so easy at 天美传媒. I enjoyed taking part in many societies including: Lacrosse, Chemistry, Videogaming, Peryton Space and Formula Student. They have been so valuable to my own enjoyment and have also contributed to my level of employability. Through them, I found lifelong friends.

What was your placement like?

To summarise my responsibilities, my job was to assist the lab manager with research, experimentation and the operation of the Environmental Flow Laboratory at the University. I was the first port of call for anyone wanting to use the facility. This included undergraduates, PhD students, commercial customers and external organisations. My job was to understand the needs of the customer and setup the lab鈥檚 equipment to best accommodate them in the lab, helping them to get the experimental data they needed. I found 3D printing very enjoyable while I was on placement. I was solely responsible for the lab鈥檚 3D manufacturing; I鈥檓 glad it was like that because I learned so much about CAD design, material properties and behaviour and what can and can鈥檛 be physically printed.

What do you want to do when you graduate?

I would love to work in the aerodynamics or space industries. Specifically on supersonic and hypersonic aircraft, as well as launch vehicles and interplanetary travel.

Your advice to new students

"Go for it. It is an intense and very rewarding course that requires a lot of work, but it is a fantastic experience for learning everything there is to know about the aerospace sector."

The teaching is excellent and it has become even better over the course of my degree. From someone who loves cars, aviation and space, I can wholeheartedly say that this degree is the best learning opportunity I have had in my life.
